I am a firm believer that certain people are brought into your life for a reason. I was contacted by the {L} Family to see if I wanted to be a part of a wonderful program called Preemie Prints. Once I heard the premise of the organization I was on board. Preemie Prints is a non-profit organization that asks photographers to donate their time and skills to families that have had a premature baby. The fact that their lives are so fragile increases the intensity and purpose behind a shoot, which really makes me want to be a part of such a wonderful organization. If you would like to read the amazing story of this preemie’s struggles since birth…please check out his mom’s website.
During our first phone conversation, I clicked with mom from the start. We had multiple phone conversations before the session and I was so excited to meet them in person. They are an amazing family with a fantastic dog, who won me over even further by having these amazingly delicious cupcakes from a local bakery. (It was literally the BEST cupcake I have ever tasted.)
The temperature outside was over 100 degrees so we decided to have the photo-shoot indoors. This is something that I love to do because it keeps the child in a familiar environment plus it gives me the ability to document the home they had as a child…something that I don’t think most people realize is important until they are looking back at old pictures.
Chasing after an active toddler can be a challenge, which is why I enjoy getting interactive shots between the parents and child, instead of the traditional posed shot. To me, this type of lifestyle shot is so much more meaningful. Being able to capture a child’s hand on his parent’s face or cuddling on the couch reading a book is why I love lifestyle photography.
The {L} Family was an absolute joy to photograph and it was a pleasure to have them as my first preemie print family photo shoot.
so incredibly sweet. what a full, real, happy family portrait.
